Friday, I got to kick off my weekend with a bang by photographing the premiere of "GetSuited" in conjunction with DapperQ-- which takes us, "into the minimalist office space of Bindle & Keep, a bespoke tailoring company based in Brooklyn that looks beyond the gender binary, creating custom-made suits for gender non-conforming and transgender clients" ... and let me tell you....there were tears! As a dapper queer woman of color I believe that it shouldn't be about shopping in the "mens" or "womens" sections, but about the look you want and how you can obtain it. In watching the documentary, I saw many individuals like me who just really wanted to find clothing that matched either their gender expressions or really "fit" their body types without the judgements or polarization of the fashion industry. There were stories of great pain and even greater triumphs. Most of all I got a sense of hope for the future! It's a must see for all! Tune in tonight on HBO 9/8C for the official release of "GetSuited"! Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts with me!
